After the leading scorer for each team fouled out in the second half, it was up to the rest of the team on each side of the scorer's table to pick up the slack.
For the Oregon Panthers, after leading scorer Christian Bultman fouled out with 59.3 seconds left in the second half, it meant that the team would need to find other ways to keep pace with the Crusaders. Matt Pearson did his part, finishing with 12 points, to help offset the loss of Bultman and his 20 points on the night.
For the Edgewood Crusaders, Alex Arians left the game after scoring 11 points, short of his 18+ points per game season average, leaving it up to Mandela Deang to finish strong for Edgewood.
In regulation, the game had been back-and-forth, with neither team leading by more than six points at any juncture. In fact, after Edgewood took a 20-14 halftime lead, Oregon went on a 10-3 run that lasted nearly five and a half minutes into the second half to take back the lead. From there, the teams battled to the final 12 seconds, when Edgewood missed an open three to win it at the buzzer.
In overtime, neither team could muster much offense. Edgewood got a couple of quick baskets to take a 50-46 lead, but Oregon answered and headed to the final seconds tied at 50. Mandela Deang scored three of his game-high 23 points on this shot:
Oregon took a heave with a good look from three point range at the buzzer, but narrowly missed sending the game to double overtime. Final score, Madison Edgewood 53, Oregon 50 in overtime.
