Wisconsin had its chances at the end of regulation and in the final moments of overtime, but the Badgers fell to St. Mary's in the 2019-2020 season opener, 65-63 in overtime.
Aleem Ford missed a three-pointer for the win at the end of regulation, and Ford's desperation heave missed at the buzzer in overtime, as the Badgers fell to 0-1 to start the season in South Dakota.
Nate Reuvers led the Badgers with 22 points, while Brad Davison added 16 and D'Mitrik Trice had 10. Ford finished with seven points.
Jordan Ford scored 26 points for the Gaels, while St. Mary's center Malik Fitts had 16 points.
Wisconsin will host Eastern Illinois on Friday night.
